Subject: Goldrush Most Wanted: ARCHER brothers
Three sons of Obadiah ARCHER took an ox-wagon cross country from Dubuque,
IA to the CA gold rush. I believe their six-month trip to CA occurred in
1852. The brothers were John M. (DOB 1826 IL), Aaron (DOB 1836 IA), and
probably William O. (DOB 1826 IL), although perhaps Moses (DOB 1833 IL)
instead. They were lead miners in Dubuque, IA. Aaron returned to Dubuque
by 1855. William's wife remarried in 1857. I speculate that William died
in CA around 1855, prompting Aaron's return to IA. John died in a mining
accident in CA in January 1864. Unfortunately, we have no idea where in CA
they were. There is some speculation they were in Yuba City, Sutter Co.,
CA but I've seen no proof.
Any information about these ARCHER's will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Bill Archer
