Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED (BECK/BABEL)
I am researching the family of Philip BECK and Catherine BABEL. BECK was
born in 1798 in Othernheim, Darmstadt. BECK came overland via the Donner
Pass and began mining at Poverty Bar in 1848 or 1849. He returned to
Europe, married Catherine, and returned to the US in 1853, where the
family resided at Foresthill (under the Hill) and Bath - both in Placer
County. In addition to mining, he was a baker, ran a store and a saloon.
Children included Catherine Matilda, Minnie Marguerita, Charlotte Teresa,
Phillip William, Frederick Carl, and John. The family eventually moved to
Silver City, NV in 1878. Any information greatly appreciated.
