Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED - BELLOW
Seeking any information concerning Joseph or Joseph Michel BELLOW. He
arrived in California around 1847 from New Orleans via Mexico and is
mentioned in Maryat's "Mountains and Molehills" as owning a
mining claim near Tuttletown and an auction house in Sonora. He later
moved to San Jose, where he was known as Mitch BALLOO, a notorious lawman.
His father, John BELLOW, was in San Francisco very early on, and was
accidentally killed by his own pistol on San Francisco Bay in 1850. Any
information concerning these family members would be greatly appreciated.
