Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED - Silas BROWN
Silas BROWN, married Hannah in Athens, Ohio in 1841, moved to Virginia,
where my gr-gr grandmother Ellen (or Margarett) BROWN was born in 1845,
then to Van Buren County Iowa. He married Elizabeth DOWNING there in 1847
when Hannah passed away. In his 1856 probate of estate, a claim is made by
a group that financed Silas' venture to the gold fields. I don't have
information as to where, how or when he died, but it appears his demise
was related to the gold venture. Any information would be greatly
appreciated.
