Subject: [CA-GOLDRUSH-L] Most Wanted: William Furgeson CARTMILL
I seek information and descendants of William Furgeson CARTMILL, who
departed Randolph Co MO in 1850 and arrived in CA about August 1850. He
was located first on the North Fork of the American River, along with
Benjamin Franklin BARNES. Barnes died of cholera in November of that year.
CARTMILL returned to MO and married Sophia Barnes, sister of his former
partner. He and his new bride returned to CA by boat down the MS, across
the Gulf of Mexico to Nicaragua, across Nicaragua and by boat to San
Francisco. They went by stage to the goldmines in Amador Co. Later they
lived in Tulare Co. I would like to contact descendants of the CARTMILLS
and learn more of this family. James Craig (craig@tstar.net)
