Subject: Gold Rush Most Wanted Thomas Dinwiddie CHISHAM
Looking for information on Thomas Dinwiddie CHISHAM. Thomas left his
family in the spring of 1853, to go in search of gold in California. He
signed on with a bull train leaving out of Westport, Missouri. The last
letter he sent back home came from Stockton, California. The last
word of Thomas was a report by a Mr. OVERTON, that he had seen Thomas, and
Thomas was headed for Mud Springs. That was the last heard of him. In
searching land patents, I came across one issued to a Thomas D. CHISHAM in
Colusa County, California in December of 1860. I cannot say for certain
that this was my Thomas, but can't help but wonder if it was. I also
discovered there were some DINWIDDIES living in that county at one time.
Thomas's mother was a DINWIDDIE before marrying a CHISHAM. Thomas has been
a real brick wall for us cousins researching him, and any help would be so
greatly appreciated. Thanks.
