Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED Jackson REED

Jackson Reed sailed to California in 1849 on the Hannah Sprague. He shipped some goods on the Arkansas (which was wrecked on Alcatraz). His home was Lawrenceville, PA (now part of Pittsburgh). I have letters he wrote in which he mentions Messrs. Dearing, Wilcox, Dixon, S. Squires, J. Smith, McKee, William Bishop, D. Estep, S. H. Farber, Stephen Sarber, William Bishop, Mr. Estep, David Blair & son, John Smith, Joseph Fullerton, Aughenbaugh, Deal - all from Lawrenceville. Also, John Ellison, Sidney Ligget, Daniel Abers from Ripley. Also, Levi Ayres from Savannah, Georgia. It is my family's belief that Jackson died in late 1850 or early 1851 and did not return to PA. His last letters indicate that he was on the North Yuba, near Downieville.
