Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED - James MANNING
James MANNING left Douglas, Mass. after 1849 for California to make his fortune.
Family lore has it that James went around the Cape and on to California. He
apparently did well as by 1870, he was found to be in Winnemucca, Nevada buying
or operating several businesses. He did some business with a Crocker bank. James
MANNING had emigrated to Douglas, Mass. from England in the summer of 1848 and
he was in Douglas for the Census of 1850. If someone could either help fill the
blanks or verify some of the information, it would be appreciated.
