Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED - MASON
James MASON, b. 25 Feb 1824, Tyrone Co. Ireland. His parents were William MASON,
and Margaret Ann(e) BOYD...They are Scotch-Irish: This family migrated to
America about 1832, James had two sisters living in New York...Margaret Ann Boyd
MASON died shortly after arriving from Cholera..The family went on to Cochocton
Co. Ohio, where several nephews & nieces were living...It is from Guernsey Co.
that James MASON, goes to California 1849/50....He died in the gold fields Sep
1851.....His friend, James KNOX, wrote a letter to the family telling them about
the death of James MASON. A year later, he went to the family to return the
personal belongings to his sister, Emma...(as he had promised)...He ended up
marrying Emma in 1852....We have never located his grave, or whereabouts. Any
help in locating the burial for this Forty-niner would be most appreciated...any
referrals welcomed. Thank you.
