John was one of about 12 children; some remained in Warren Co IA and some went to CA. John grew up in Warren Co IA, left there ca 1875, married in MO ca 1876, and went to KS. His family is shown on the census 18 Jun 1880 in Galena, Lowell Twp, Cherokee Co KS, he was an engineer. The local newspaper 18 July 1880 said "J.D. Golden & Co., on the Galena Crusher Company's land, are sinking an air shaft some 70 feet south of the one that is yielding." From 1882 to 1884 he lived in Dinuba, Tulare Co CA where he was in business with this father as John Golden & Son. He had a lumber mill in the high mountains which was sold in 1884. 25 Mar 1884 he registered to vote in Tulare Co CA and gave his occupation as machinist. In 1885 there were court records in Tulare Co CA. On 3 Apr 1896 John left Traver, Tulare Co CA for "Goldfields," Alaska with his brother Stephen Augustus GOLDEN and their relative James Jacob LUSHBAUGH. James arrived 15 May 1896 at Turnigan Arm, Cook Inlet, AK. Stephen and James both returned to California later, but we do not know the fate of John Davis GOLDEN. When John's mother died in 1897 in CA, his residence was unknown. In 1905 space was reserved in his wife's grave but he was not buried there. Family tradition said after going to Alaska he was seen in "northern California." We are seeking John's death record, and/or any information about him. Zelda (email@example.com)
