Subject: [CA-GOLDRUSH-L] Most Wanted: John Richard NORRIS
John Richard NORRIS, born Culpeper VA in 1827, died Orcutt CA 1909, known to be
on CA trail 16Nov1849 at Socorro, NM; a CA gold miner; and in Mariposa's 1850
U.S. census. Need to know if he crossed the CA border before 1/1/1850.
Reportedly he (myggf) was at one time "agent and business manager" for Commodore
Robert F. Stockton; built the first schoolhouse in Mariposa; and was its first
school teacher. I need all information you can give me on any of these
activities. Thank you!
