Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED Josiah Thompson SMITH
JOSIAH THOMPSON SMITH was b. 1812, either in PA or OH. Md. 1832 to Nancy CUMMINS
in Hamilton Co. OH. Had children: James Milton, Eliza Jane, Martha M. and Oscar.
Family moved to Des Moines Co., IA in 1839, then Josiah T. Smith came to
Siskiyou Co. CA in 1852 where he squatted some property there. In 1860 rest of
family came to Siskiyou County. Josiah T. Smith then acquired property in that
county via homestead in 1860, sold it in 1861 and disappears from the Siskiyou
County scene - forever!!! His wife (who lived with her son for a while and then
with daughter and family) checked the "divorced" column in the 1880 census, but
am unable to find a divorce record in that county or elsewhere. I haven't found
where he returned to IA or OH at that time. Also, have no names of parents or
siblings for Josiah T. Smith. Has anyone run into this guy??? Thanks, Joanne
