Subject: [CA-GOLDRUSH] Most Wanted: Nelson STEWART
I am looking for Nelson STEWART from Knox Co., KY - he never went back to KY or
to KY family. First sighting in CA was in 1856. Next, small article in Plumas
Co. regarding theft from Nelson & pardners of a gold nugget with chase starting
in Jamison City. Possible residence in Amador Co. in 1860 living with D. Ann
STEWART & children in Jackson?? Nelson STEWART listed as Justice of Peace,
Quartz Township, Plumas Co, 1864 & 68, also small article in Plumas about
"Pappy" Stewart in Jamison. Final sighting is 1870 census, Plumas, where he is
listed as a blacksmith, living alone. Has anyone seen any information on this
man? Did he start another family in CA, if so, where did they move? Who is D.
Ann? Did she leave him and remarry or take children back East to MO, ME or MA???
