Subject: GOLDRUSH MOST WANTED- MITCHELL & WILLIAMS
Two of my great-grandfathers, William MOYLE (age 24) and William RAPSON, (age
39) went to California in 1858 with Joseph MITCHELL and John WILLIAMS. William
Moyle's mother was Jane Williams (who had a brother named John) so this John
Williams could be that uncle. Wm. Moyle later reported that they "took a
contract for tunneling in Rabbit Creek, Plumas County, for three and a half
years. Very successful, he went from there to Richmond Hill, California, located
a claim, and bought a claim, each claim being one hundred feet and run to the
summit. Wages were small. Worked one month for another company for four dollars
a day, money divided among the partners, William Rapson and Joseph Mitchell.
This being the year of 1864, he returned to Hazel Green, Wisconsin." I have a
lot of information about MOYLE and RAPSON. Am interested in ANY information
about John WILLIAMS and Joseph MITCHELL.
