William NICHOLSON was born 19 May 1819 in ME. He and his wife Ann (born in 1838 in ME) migrated (probably by sea?) to CA during the early gold rush years in time for first child Levi to be born there in 1852.Ann was probably one of the few wives to accompany her husband to CA at this time. Subsequently children Ada, 1855, and Henry, 1857, were also born in CA, but Minerva 1860, and Lesta 1862, were born in Australia. Matura 1864, Sybilla 1870, Alexander 1873, and Stephan were born in Alta, Placer Co, CA. William who died in San Francisco in 1902 listed his occupation as miner. Ann died some years earlier.
